Barre versus Barre?

Barre versus Barre....?

When you think of Barre you think of a dancer or someone who is a taking a ballet class doing Barre. You go through a series of exercises that strengthen and stretch you.  These movements are very controlled and done slow and methodical.

Nice stretch!

Nice stretch!

So, who decided to use the word "BARRE" and create a series of exercises that has NOTHING TO DO WITH BARRE, but uses the name, tells people you are going to look like a dancer, knowing people will be sold on it because of the word BARRE.

Does this look like a pleasant thing to do with your feet, knees, hips, ankles......

Does this look like a pleasant thing to do with your feet, knees, hips, ankles......

I am ALL for capitalism.  I am all for people to being creative in how we should exercise, and thank goodness we are. But, to create a CERTIFICATION to teach it?!  Did you know to teach a real BARRE class is takes AT LEAST 10 years of dance training not a one weekend certification

Lets look:   Pulsing on half point:   BALLET DANCERS DO NOT PULSE ON HALF POINT.  What about pulsing the leg in the back in attitude?  DANCERS DO NOT DO THIS.  Are you understanding my point?  You are not being taught a Barre class in the truest sense.  It is important you understand what BARRE is and what you are being told.

Take an adult DANCE BALLET BARRE and PILATES REFORMER CLASS                                                                                               You will REALLY FEEL LIKE a dancer when you leave the class!

I have been taking BALLET BARRE AND PILATES for over 30 years...NO LONG SUSTAINED INJURIES!

Plus, one the most important type of exercise is:  EXTENSION  If you know Pilates then you know the GREAT IMPORTANCE OF EXTENSION.  Are you being taught extension in BARRE CLASS?

Lastly, if you know me, my opinion can change, this is NOT limited to BARRE.  It will soften up over time.  I am a BALLET DANCER and when I see BARRE being used differently, it has made me take a PAUSE. MORE important is when I hear people getting injured..I have a responsibility to voice my professional opinion.

AN INFORMED FITNESS PERSON IS A HEALTHY PERSON

It is MY responsibility to be honest and fair.  BUT, it is only my opinion.  YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR OWN INFORMED CHOICES!.
